MIT World provides interesting presentations about the American view of the world.
"From Space to Energy: Changing the World. For Good." is an interesting video.
I disagree with some arguments and I consider some presented information as false, but in the overall it is an interesting presentation. It presents many ideas, some of them recollected in the quotes at the end of this post. My favorite one is:
"""
Taking the human dynamics to improve the world.
"""
This talk put the point of one my persistent questions "why we suppose we need constant grow" ? (more on this topic in the future).
It also argues about prizes as an efficient way, for investors, to create breakthroughs. I'm curious to know how efficient is this for the participants ?
Finally in the quote: "You need to be able to risk everything for something you believe in". It would be nice if the presenter was able to define 'everything'.
Enjoy the talk.
The quotes:
Nothing... nothing is impossible.
In 8 years, from no men in orbit to walking on the moon.
...
that is wonderful efficiency...
From 20M$ per person to 100$ per person.
The believe ride the market.
[Then] you are building heroes. It's all about human passion.
You need to be able to risk everything for something you believe in.
Committed and passionate minds. This is the scarce resource.
We are genetically programmed to compete.
Taking the human dynamics to improve the world.
Learn to deal with failure.
